WE MADE IT!

Women of Wisdom became a full fledged chapter of the American Business Women’s Association on October 17, 2006! Making our quota of over 40 women who signed up, twenty-six members joined us on this evening to sign the official charter.

Members and guests began arriving at 5:30pm, helping themselves to a delicious buffet with Chicken Marsala over Rice Pilaf, vegetables and an assortment of delectable deserts! Opening the meeting, mentor Lucille Wingard had everyone recite the invocation and pledge of allegiance. Dr. Pratt graced us with her opening remarks of “setting the table” for the evening’s event by providing a “hug, a kiss, and something to eat”, passing around chocolate kisses, and having each of us hug the person next to us. Thank you to Dr. Pratt and Baldwin-Wallace for sponsoring the many things provided this evening!

Councilman for the City of Beachwood, Mark Wachter, offered a “Proclamation” to the chapter and  proclaimed Tuesday, October 17, 2006 as “ABWA Day” in the City of Beachwood. He joked: members of the new chapter only had a few more hours left of the day to get out of a speeding ticket in the City of Beachwood since it is ABWA day.

Diane Nixon, newly elected 2006-2007 ABWA National Secretary-Treasurer (shown in the bottom picture) performed the Charter Chapter Installation by first installing the Executive Board. From left to right, Tracy Drogalus - Chapter President, Eileen Logan - Chapter Vice President, J. Lombardi - Chapter Treasurer, and Diane Scartz - Chapter Secretary.

Women With Vision offered their support by being there and partaking in the celebration.

Lucille took wonderful pictures that you can view on

I also have pictures in the MEMBERS Album to the right.

Want to know more about the evening? Go into the DOCUMENTS section of this blog (bottom right) and pull up the evening’s minutes! You will find them in the "ABWA Documents" file. If you are a member, you will be voting on the approval of these minutes. Thank you Diane Scartz for providing the minutes which helped in this writing!

Thank you to our sponsors who, with their help, made this event happen: Professional Risk Advisors, Customized Solutions, Inc., Joslyn Hi-Voltage, Baldwin-Wallace East, and our first sponsor: E-Ventus Corporation. And special acknowledgement and thank you to all the members, formation committee members, their spouses and significant others who put in their hard work and time, who were dedicated to make this work! This could not have been possible without their dedication and support. Thank you!

As Dr. Pratt closed the evening, she left us with a lasting affirmation, "I see the greatness in me!" and encouraged us to say this every morning in front of the mirror as we get ready for the day. YOU, our members, make this chapter great!

Initial Formation

Hello all,
I am excited to announce that I am in the process of forming a women’s organization at BW and I need your help.
I am inviting you to attend a meeting to help launch an American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) chapter at the Baldwin Wallace Beachwood campus. The director of BW Beachwood, Charleyse Pratt, Ph.D., has generously allowed ABWA use of the Beachwood facilities. The ABWA is an organization that promotes professional growth, networking, community service, education and scholarships among women.
I am asking you to think about being a part of the charter chapter formation board. The formation board is a temporary group to launch the chapter. From there, chapter formation members can decide if they want to commit to a role in the organization. This board will be advised by Lucille Wingard, the founding chapter president of the west side local chapter of ABWA.
Please let me know if you are interested. You can contact me at tdrogalu@bw.edu. Thank you!

For more information on ABWA, visit the national web site at www.abwa.org. Lucille’s local chapter is located at www.abwa1.com. I am looking forward to hearing from you!
